LSE: announces 'good' first-half performance

(CercleFinance.com) - London Stock Exchange Group announced a "good financial performance" in the first half of 2020 and said that it is making progress in the acquisition of financial data firm Refinitiv, expecting to close the deal by the end of the year or in early 2021.

The British stock exchange operator said that first-half revenue rose by 4% to 1,05 billion pounds in the first six months of the year, giving an operating profit of 391 million pounds, down just 2% year-on-year.

In a statement, LSEG confirmed that it has begun exploratory discussions that may result in the sale of its stake in the MTS platform on which Italian government bonds are traded, or potentially Borsa Italiana as a whole, in the wake of the European Commission's review of the acquisition of Refinitiv.

LSEG also confirmed that the United States Department of Justice has closed its antitrust investigation of the transaction.

The shares were up 1.5% after these announcements.
