Shell: big oil discovery in Gulf of Mexico

(CercleFinance.com) - Alongside its earnings report, Shell said on Thursday that it has made one of its largest US Gulf of Mexico exploration finds in the past decade from a deep-water well.


The well, which is co-owned with US giant Chevron (40%), encountered more than 1,400 net feet (427 meters) of oil-bearing pay, the British company said.

Moreover, Shell has won nine exploration blocks in the latest deep-water bid round for the Mexican Gulf of Mexico, with the company set to operate them all.
