bp: prospecting for green hydrogen production in Egypt

(CercleFinance.com) - bp has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Egyptian government, under which it will study the potential for the creation of a new green hydrogen production facility in the country.


As part of this, bp will carry out a number of studies to assess the technical and commercial feasibility of developing a large-scale, multi-phase green hydrogen (gH2) export facility in Egypt.

The group plans to consider high potential sites throughout Egypt, targeting the best resources. Green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water, powered by renewable energy.

bp said that Egypt has world-class renewable energy resources, and that it looks forward to working with the government to explore how it can support its ambitious low-carbon strategy.
