Carmat: first Aeson implant in a female recipient
(CercleFinance.com) - Carmat announces the first implant of its bioprosthetic artificial heart, Aeson, in a female recipient.
The operation was performed at UofL Health - Jewish Hospital by doctors from the University of Louisville (Kentucky).
The 57-year-old patient forms part of the first cohort of three patients from the feasibility study in the United States. She suffered from a severe biventricular heart failure and had gone through heart surgery several years previously.
“This achievement confirms that the size limitations for adults are minimal, which makes us very confident in Aeson's potential to become a therapy of choice for a broad patient population,” comments CEO Stéphane Piat.
