Alstom: Madrid's driverless metro project

(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom announced on Monday that it has won a new contract with the Madrid metro, to which it will supply signalling technologies enabling the deployment of driverless trains.

Under the terms of the agreement, the French group will turn line 6, known to be the busiest in the Spanish capital with almost 400,000 passengers carried every day over a circular distance of 23.5 km and 28 stations served, into a fully automated loop.

The project, which will be led by Alstom's center of excellence in Madrid, involves the transition from semi-automatic train operation (GoA2) to totally unattended operation (GoA4).

Alstom says that it has been a partner of the Madrid metro for the past fifty years, supplying not only its signaling systems but also 85% of its current fleet of equipment, which it manufactures at its Trapaga center near Bilbao.
