Eurofins: Covid variant detection possible with kit

(CercleFinance.com) - Eurofins Biomnis reports that its analytical kit for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 variants by RT-PCR, which is awaiting CE marking, can detect the N501Y and A570D mutations characteristic of the British variant VOC-202012/01 (B.
1.1.7) of the Covid virus.

The N501Y mutation is common to the British, South African and Brazilian variants and, on its own, does not distinguish one variant from the other, Eurofins Scientific's specialist medical biology subsidiary said.

Eurofins Biomnis received temporary authorisation from ANSM on 22 January to offer its kit for detecting SARS-CoV-2 variants and has reinforced both its technical platforms in Ivry-sur-Seine and Lyon to respond to the increase in screening by RT-PCR.
