Nokia: calls for more 5G investment in Europe
(CercleFinance.com) - Ericsson, Nokia and Vodafone have published a joint editorial highlighting the need for investment, regulatory modernization and consolidation in the European telecoms sector.
The three industrialists believe that Europe is lagging behind in the deployment of 5G and other digital technologies, and call for 'swift action'.
The joint statement thus highlights some of the issues holding back digital transformation in Europe's telecoms sector.
Operators have been subjected to extractive spectrum auctions, sometimes reaching costs of several hundred million, often exacerbated by short license durations, they note.
While they welcome recent initiatives - such as the German consultation on the extension of spectrum licenses - they also stress the importance of turning political declarations into concrete action to support innovation and digital infrastructures in Europe.
