Nokia: new 5G technology validated with Orange

(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday Nokia announced that it has validated the performance of a mobile microwave technology that will enable the French operator Orange to expand its 5G services.

Both partners say they have achieved a throughput of 20 Gbps over a 3.6km link using a single-band network based on two 18GHz E-band (80GHz) radio signals.

Following the successful trial, Orange France plans to purchase new microwave transport equipment from Nokia, as well as equipment and services from its AirScale access portfolio.

All of these products will enable Orange to establish a high-speed, high-capacity microwave architecture to enhance the quality of its 5G offering.

Doesn't seem too much of a big deal though - Nokia shares are currently up just a fraction (+0.2%), while Orange shares are actually down slightly (-0.5%).
