Siemens Gamesa: launches offshore Direct Drive turbine

(CercleFinance.com) - Siemens Gamesa announces the offshore wind turbine SG 14-222 DD with a nominal capacity of 14 MW, that could reach up to 15 MW with the Power Boost, a rotor of 222 metres in diameter, blades of 108 meters long, with a swept rotor area of 39,000 m2.


The group stresses that this wind turbine saves approximately 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per machine during its scheduled lifetime over an initial period of 25 years, compared to the electricity produced by coal.

The 14 MW capacity allows one machine to supply enough energy to power around 18,000 average European households each year. About 30 wind turbines could also cover the annual electricity consumption of the city of Nice.
