Zalando: to build new fulfillment center in the Netherlands

(CercleFinance.com) - Zalando said on Thursday it planned to build a new fulfillment center near Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, that could create 1,500 jobs over the medium term.


The 140,000 square metre facility - its first in the Netherlands - will have a total storage capacity of 16 million items and will help Zalando reduce delivery times in Benelux markets, the company said.

The fulfillment centre will also cater for customers in France, Spain and the United Kingdom, it said.

Construction will start in the summer of 2019, with the first parcels expected to be delivered in the summer of 2021.

Zalando plans to invest 200 million euros in its intralogistics, aiming for a "high degree of automation."
