Bayer: research partnership with US dermatology biotech firm

(CercleFinance.com) - Bayer will collaborate with US biotech firm Azitra to identify potential candidates for the treatment of skin diseases, the German drugmaker said on Friday.


The companies said they have signed a joint development agreement to collaborate in the identification of microbiome bacteria that can protect the skin from hostile invasions.

Based on the partnership's results, Bayer plans to develop selected staphylococcus epidermidis strains into new natural skin care products for diseases such as eczema and atopic dermatitis.

In addition, Bayer plans to review the use of Azitra's genetically modified bacteria in other consumer health areas, such as nutritionals and digestive health, the Leverkusen-based group said.
