Volkswagen: highly charged EV sales

(CercleFinance.com) - Volkswagen said on Friday that it doubled its sales of electric vehicles in Q3, despite a shortage of semiconductors that has hurt its business.

The German car giant said it delivered 122,100 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) in the July-September period, compared with 58,600 units in the same period last year.

Its most popular model remained the Volkswagen ID.4, which sold 72,700 units over the quarter, followed by the Volkswagen ID.3 (52,700 units), the Audi e-tron (36,100 units) and the Porsche Taycan (28,600 units).

Geographically, Europe remains the group's main market, with 209,800 electric vehicles sold since the beginning of 2021, representing a market share that is now around 26%.

As an indication, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) now represent over 6% of the carmaker's sales volumes.

Up 1.5%, VW shares were one of the strongest performers on the DAX index on Friday.
