BMW: 200 million euros investment in Munich battery centre

(CercleFinance.com) - BMW Group on Thursday said it was investing 200 million euros in its "competence centre", a Munich-based facility intended to advance its battery cell technology.


The German carmaker said the new plant - which will have about 200 employees - will focus on improving energy density, available peak output, service life, safety, charging characteristics and performance at varying temperatures, and reducing costs.

BMW plans to double the energy density of its battery cells and the operating range of its vehicles by 2030.
